Facemasks More Effective than Distancing – Study Shows

A recent study published in the ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (PNAS)  suggests the simple facemask may be the most economical and enduring solution to keep populations safe while the pandemic continues, allowing businesses to remain open and preventing economic recession.

Facemasks keep businesses open

Until the whole world is adequately vaccinated there is a continued risk of infection surges, and of new variants emerging triggering a new wave of infection. Governments must either bring in further lockdowns and so put their economy under pressure, or require citizens to continue their daily life but using mitigations such as mask wearing and social distancing.

While social distancing is ‘free’ it causes an impact on a business’s ability to operate profitably, for example restaurants, offices and factories. On the other hand, facemasks are economical and universally available but, until the results of the study were published, there was concern that facemasks alone would not be enough.

The research article (An upper bound on one-to-one exposure to infectious human respiratory particles), published in early December 2021, showed that facemasks do indeed significantly reduce the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to social distancing.

The authors stated: “We show that universal masking is the most effective method for limiting airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2… We find a very low risk of infection when everyone wears a face mask, even if it doesn’t fit perfectly on the face.”

Of course, if masks are designed to fit well with sliding ear adjusters and a removable nose bridge, then even that leakage risk is reduced.

With the current Omicron surge, it seems that facemask wearing will continue to be a part of life for quite some time to come.

The eco-friendly, high-performance Touchpoint 3-layer face masks provide 98% filtrate rate / UNS1, are WHO compliant and AFNOR and CEN certified. And they come with sliding ear adjusters and a removable nose bridge. In addition, the fabric is treated with antimicrobial SILVADUR, ensuring that the fabric remains hygienic and the mask remains pleasant to wear for longer.

Mask can be branded, and are available from stock for express deliveries.
